I recently commented on an article in the Daily Mirror about Camille Sold, the partner of Morgan Schneiderlin, actually going out to work for a living when her other half trousers the best part of £100,000 per week.

I stirred up a bit of a hornet’s nest by suggesting that the Adidas store, where she is employed, would themselves have been better employed had they given the job to somebody who actually needed the money.

Back in March 2015, I pointed out, the Northwest’s unemployed numbered 219,000. When quoting figures such as this, I am aware that there are a great number of people included who don’t want to work, but surely ONE of them would have appreciated the money a lot more.

I accept that Camille, having just moved up from Southampton, probably doesn’t want to sit in the Lowry hotel for three or four hours while Morgan goes training and, probably in order to get to know people, decided she wanted a job. I have no problem with any of that.

Having discussed potential boredom with her partner, I feel sure that he will have offered to help in any way he could. If she just wanted to meet people there are gyms, clubs and any amount of social events going on at which her attendance would be welcome.

I think she wanted a measure of financial independence, hence the job.

Somehow though, I can’t imagine her sitting in the hotel room flipping through the “Situations Vacant” section of the Manchester Evening News. I also can’t imagine that, being the partner of a Premier League Football player, it would be something she would need to do.

It is well known nowadays that clubs will help new players settle in to a new city, particularly foreign players who may not speak very good English. The club will find a house, a car, a school for the children in fact anything they can to make the transition for the player as smooth as possible. Maybe even a job for the partner?

Now, for the sake of argument, lets assume that Morgan and Camille discussed his move to United before he signed the contract. Lets also assume that Camille, about to be transported to a large foreign city, decided she wanted a job to occupy herself. It could also be, as I mentioned earlier, that she wanted to have her own money, even though it’s only £10 per hour, nothing wrong with that either.

So Morgan, not knowing Manchester or the job scene says he will mention it to United.

Now, If Manchester United can find a house in Prestbury or Alderley Edge. If they can find a nice new Chevrolet and a good school for the offspring, then finding Camille a job shouldn’t present too much of a problem. If only they had a business relationship with a company wherein a position could be found for her.

Unlike all the people who disagreed with my comments in the Daily Mirror, I can’t believe that, out of the thousands of shops and offices in Manchester, she applies for, and gets, a job at Adidas. A company, remember, who have just entered into a £750 million contract to supply the kits for guess who? If it IS just a coincidence then it’s one of the biggest I have ever known.

Don’t get me wrong. If she wants to be independent and have a job and her own money, then more power to her elbow. If, however, she used her partner’s professional position as a player for Manchester United to achieve that then she hasn’t been very independent.

Whichever is the truth, good luck to her and Morgan in Manchester.
