It’s the 4th of July so it’s only fitting that the good old U.S. of A’s women’s football team has reached the World Cup final. Those ever so sporting winners with always a sympathetic and kind word for their opponents celebrate independence and, with it, the freedom to elect whoever they wish as president, even Donald Trump.
Megan Rapinoe is another one who could run in the next presidential election race as she has certainly proved that mixing sport and politics is boring and, hopefully, ineffectual. Football is not a platform to air views on anything other than football and, as far as we are aware, nobody is interested in those views anyway.
Disrespecting the American anthem and flag is NOT disrespecting the president or his policies at whom the protest is supposedly aimed, it is disrespecting the country that gave those players the opportunity to make millions from their ability to kick or throw a ball!
Keep your political opinions to yourself and stick to playing football. Talking is not your strong suit!
The semi-final specialists just go on…..

The only Neville likely to retire having been successful as a coach
The England men’s football team lost a World Cup semi final last year. They followed this up by losing the Nation’s League semi final earlier this year.
Not to be outdone, the England women’s team followed suit by losing their World Cup semi final this year, proving that failure runs through both Gareth Southgate and Phil Neville’s veins, (only they could spin their losses as successful)! Could it be the waistcoat or is it just that they are both very average managers?
Never mind, there’s always the Cricket World Cup semi final to look forward to where England, backed by an expectant nation, will actually feel they have a reasonable chance of progressing to the final, (in much the same way as the football teams did).
If that fails then the nation can turn their collective attention to yet another World Cup and watch the Netball. Tracey Neville will be out to show the world that she is a better coach than either of her famous brothers which, in the case of Gary, has probably already been proven.
Who will break the duck, Netball or Cricket? Answers in the comments section below.
Sky remains consistently below average…..

Derby’s Frank Lampard becomes Chelsea’s Frank Lampard having taken the Rams from 6th position before he took over to 6th position when he left. Now that’s progress and success!
Sky Sports News’ new morning “show“, purportedly about transfers and giving viewers an opportunity to listen to four kids who look and talk more like a scruffy boy band, actually spent the first twenty five minutes of the programme on the 4th talking inanely about a managerial appointment at a club who are banned from conducting any transfer business whatsoever, but hey, when has honesty or accuracy ever been part of any Sky policy?
The manager in question, Frank Lampard, has a whole ONE season experience of managing a football club and that, as we all know, was at Derby County with whom he managed to finish sixth in the Championship. He is the only manager we know who is less qualified to manage a big club than Ole Gunnar Solskjær at Manchester United!
Good luck anyway.
Totaly agree with you. If you use the sports arena to express your own political views there should be a penalty to pay. And yes disrepect the flag and the anthem of the country and you disrespect the lives of all the the people that ever fought for the country.
