So Manchester United’s current choice of midfield players consists of Bruno Fernandes, Andrey Santos, Kobbie Mainoo, Youri Tielemans, a couple of academy players and a crocked Uruguayan who will probably be sold when he’s fit. So what are United doing? Correct, they’re looking at another one midfielder at least.
Meanwhile, and with a bit of luck, Joshua Zirkzee will be sold, leaving the club with no real backup to Benjamin Šeško. Are they looking for another striker who isn’t the wrong side of 30? No, as far as we know they aren’t.
Headless chicken Rashford is reporting back to Old Trafford to offer absolutely nothing except to drain the coffers with his vastly overinflated wage. It says a lot about him when he achieves a modicum of success at Barcelona, they can buy him on the cheap, yet they still don’t want him! We here at WSA Towers have given up trying to work out what clubs find so dislikeable about Rashford but United and Aston Villa also found something.
It seems United are also looking at the possibility of signing a left back to cover for Luke Shaw. This despite already having a perfectly good one waiting for a chance. Harry Amass is, reportedly, up for sale for the paltry sum of £6 million, (ANY other club would want £30 million). This money along with about £44 million more, would buy Lewis Hall from Newcastle who, at 21 years of age is marginally older than Amass and, because he’s had more experience, marginally better. United may have improved dramatically in the transfer market over the last few years but this illogical way of thinking shows they still have a lot to learn.
There is also talk of Noussair Mazraoui being sold which, again, would make no sense. He can play both full-back roles and, even on his worst day, is better than Dalot on his best. So, in our humble opinion, right back needs attention more so than left back.
At least the centre backs and goalkeeper positions appear reasonably well covered. Harry Maguire, Matthijs De Ligt, Lenny Yoro, Ayden Heaven and Lisandro Martinez, (when fit), should be more than adequate in the middle and Senne Lammens, (fresh from his mistake at the World Cup which was no worse than Thibaut Courtois’ mistake in the same game), and Karl Darlow should ensure that the net stays empty more often than not.
So, by the time the new season starts, United should have at least two, if not three, more signings to help with the exhaustive and backbreaking problem of having to participate in another game of football, (90 minutes in case you forgot), per week.
They do appear to be approaching next season a little more seriously than they did the last few so, who knows, with a little luck they may even win something! Now wouldn’t that make a nice change?
