With each club’s season quickly winding down to its last game and only a point separating the top two, the race between Manchester City and Liverpool for Premier League supremacy is one of the most exciting in recent years. In fact, the gap is so wide that 3rd place Chelsea are 23pts behind Liverpool. While the competition at the top of the Premier League table is a two-horse race, at the moment it looks very likely that City will win the Premier League and Liverpool will finish second. Sergio Ramos, reportedly, once pointed out to José Mourinho that he couldn’t possibly empathise with players at Real Madrid as he had never played football at that level.

The “expert” pundits on Soccer Saturday are all ex-professional footballers who played the game at the top.

We are forever being told, usually by these ex-pros, that people who haven’t played the game at professional level can’t possibly have a reasonable discussion about football simply because they don’t know anything about it. (more…)

It is highly unlikely that this one game will decide who wins the Premier League. It is also highly unlikely that the fate of either manager will be decided by the result of this one game. So why all the hype? Well, one reason is because Sky Sports have found out when and where the game is to be played.

Despite the two clubs trying to keep the timing and whereabouts of the match a closely guarded secret shared only between a few million fans and the two teams, it was discovered that a mole had leaked the information to Sky. The mole has since been bodily removed from Manchester and sentenced to support Arsenal for the rest of his miserable life. (more…)

Good old Gary. You have to admire his optimism, don’t you? He was a dopey defender, as Rodney Marsh used to say, who has turned into football’s answer to ‘The Man Who Knew Everything.” Very likeable and speaking a lot of common sense he is a refreshing addition to the world of punditry which previously boasted Paul Merson and his twenty words vocabulary as one of the leading lights, (and still does, to be honest).

According to Neville the elder, Manchester United are just TWO, yes TWO players short of being like Barcelona, whatever that means.

I suppose if Messi and Neymar were to sign for United tomorrow they would then be more like Barcelona. Only they wouldn’t be, because Barca would no longer have Messi and Neymar. They would still have Luis Suarez, which would make them more like Manchester City who also have only one world class striker in Sir Joe Aguero.

Trying to be more logical than Neville isn’t particularly difficult. All we need to do is work out which two players he means then, obviously, whoever is left would get into the Barcelona team. So let’s start up top. (more…)
