Continuing our look at the Premier League games involving the big six and today was the turn of Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Arsenal and Manchester United have both managed a paltry three points from their first three games whereas Spurs have an impeccable record with three wins from three, although their game against Watford who also had three from three would see the end of one or both the 100% records.

First up was Arsenal who were in Wales playing Cardiff who somehow, along with Swansea at one stage, managed to escape the Welsh League and find their way into the English Premier League. We are pretty sure that both Celtic and Rangers would like to know how this was achieved! (more…)

In the early game, Stubborn Old Man sent his Arsenal team out to face Stoke City knowing that a win was the only acceptable result. Three points would move them to within five of Chelsea in fifth and ten of Tottenham in fourth. It wouldn’t disguise what a terrible season The Gunners are experiencing but it would give a little cheer to the few fans expected to turn up at The Emirates for this one.

Stoke City, on the other hand, needed the points for different reasons.

Paul Lambert has done a reasonable job since arriving and the team were unbeaten during his short reign. Unfortunately, they have drawn far too many games through a mixture of bad luck and bad finishing and are still in grave danger of relegation. So anything gained from this game would be welcome. An away trip to Newcastle should hold no fears for Manchester United this weekend. Having sat, feet up, in a decent hotel on Tyneside and watched Manchester City stretch their lead to sixteen points whilst Arsenal dropped more points, the game is an ideal opportunity to pull a little further away.

Only Tottenham Hotspur, to date, have reduced the gap which, to them, is still four points and they have now played a game more.

Liverpool will do well to take three points from Southampton on Sunday evening, given their inconsistency and the recent upturn in form of the Saints. (more…)

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – Arsenal’s new party-loving signing

Arsenal would seem to have slightly improved their lot having signed Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund respectively.

The two ex-team mates will now renew acquaintances with each other at The Emirates.

Hopefully the Gabonese international will still be happy with his move when he finds out that Arsenal aren’t really in the Champion’s League, are out of the FA Cup and won’t finish in the top four of the Premier League this season. Whoever tells him may need to leave the room quite quickly shortly afterwards! (more…)

Aymeric Laporte – About to join the scrap for places at City

Manchester City are on the verge of completing a deal for Aymeric Laporte. The Frenchman currently plays for Athletic Bilbao and City have circumvented any needless haggling and price manipulation by the Spaniards by just agreeing to pay the release cause, meaning that there is nothing Bilbao can do about the transfer other than sanction it.

The player has yet to he capped by his country but that, in truth, is more a reflection on the strange selection policy sometimes adopted by the French manager, Didier Deschamps.

The question now is; will he play regularly for City? Most people would think that a player costing around £60 million would be nailed on for a place in the first team but, as usual, that is not necessarily the case when it is Pep Guardiola picking the starting eleven. (more…)

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – Will the Arsenal fans soon be chanting his name?

Stubborn Old Man, having persuaded Henrikh Mkhitaryan to assist in baling out the slowly sinking good ship Emirates, is still looking to add to his squad. Anyone handy with a bucket will do!

Reports have it that Ivan Gazidis is currently in Dortmund looking to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gabon international should be available for around £53million and would be a direct replacement for Alexis Sánchez as he is also quite good at disrupting the dressing room when the mood takes him.

He could turn out to be an excellent signing for The Gunners but would surely signal the end of Olivier Giroud’s time at Arsenal.

Already behind Alexandre Lacazette in the pecking order the Frenchman would drop down even further with the arrival of a new man. (more…)
