It would appear that Ed Woodward isn’t very well versed in the takeaway. No, not the Chinese kind, the sales kind. The one which appears to remove a particular tidbit from a deal only to reinstate it at a later date.
It’s like saying that your favourite car can be bought, is affordable but comes without electric windows. Then when you, the client, say that the only thing stopping you buying the car is the electric window issue, they can suddenly be included in the price. (more…)
So Ole Gunnar Solskjær is going to replace any players sold during this transfer window, according to the man himself anyway.
Well, he hasn’t replaced Ander Herrera yet with Ed Woodward trying to be clever, (yet again), by refusing to pay the asking price for Bruno Fernandes. He is doing the same with Harry Maguire although he may end up being proved right on that one. United need desperately to get rid of Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo who both underperform in that position. (more…)
So, if the honest and upright British press, (and Sky Sports News), are to be believed then Arsenal have a transfer kitty of around £45 million.
This should be enough to buy them the player they are crying out for which is a central defender, particularly now that Laurent Koscielny has decided that there is more room in his pram without the toys.
However, having obviously appointed Diane Abbott to their accounting team, their kitty will now spread much further in a way reminiscent of the feeding of the five thousand. (more…)
It’s the 4th of July so it’s only fitting that the good old U.S. of A’s women’s football team has reached the World Cup final. Those ever so sporting winners with always a sympathetic and kind word for their opponents celebrate independence and, with it, the freedom to elect whoever they wish as president, even Donald Trump.
Megan Rapinoe is another one who could run in the next presidential election race as she has certainly proved that mixing sport and politics is boring and, hopefully, ineffectual. Football is not a platform to air views on anything other than football and, as far as we are aware, nobody is interested in those views anyway. (more…)
The clear-out still hasn’t begun at Manchester United and the priorities, as far as the fans are concerned, seem to be a little confused.
Yes, Romelu Lukaku should be sold as he doesn’t fit the philosophy at the new United. Yes, Paul Pogba should be sold because he doesn’t wan to be there and yes, Alexis Sánchez should be sold because he is costing a fortune while sitting on the bench but, far more pressing for the supporters, is the fact that Chris Smalling, Ashley Young, Jesse Lingard and Phil Jones are all still there and, worse still, no noises are forthcoming about any of them being shifted in the near future. It’s official! Ed Woodward really is an expert on football. This may come as a bit of a surprise to the vast majority of United fans, Louis van Gaal and all the ex-players who hang around Old Trafford these days. They think he is clueless. They think he keeps buying the wrong players and failing to buy the right ones.
Wrong! Ed knows what he is doing and disagreeing with the club’s most famous manager will prove that to be the case.
On the one occasion he probably should have disagreed with Sir Alex Ferguson, he didn’t, and David Moyes was appointed as manager. We all know how that one turned out. (more…)
As Real Madrid complete the signings of Luka Jović, Ferland Mandy and Eden Hazard, Barcelona seem to be favourites for Matthijs De Ligt having already agreed the signing of Frenkie De Jong, Manchester City and Liverpool are being linked with some big name signings and even Arsenal and Tottenham may spend a few quid, what are Manchester United doing?

What a season it turned out to be for both Manchester-based soccer clubs in 2018/19. We all know the story with City – keeping Liverpool at bay with a staggering run of wins under Pep Guardiola to claim the league title.
But where does this leave Manchester United? Once, they were the team that everyone feared in English football, but this has slipped over the years since Sir Alex Ferguson left. 2018/19 was a frustrating season for them – certainly for the first part of it under José Mourinho. The latter part of the season did pick up somewhat once new manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær took his seat in the dugout. A sixth-place league finish is not what United fans expect though, and they are certainly not happy about the gulf between them and City. (more…)
So London lost more than it won. This is OK. It is the natural order of things and the way they should be.
Chelsea won the Europa League but the fact that the final was contested by two teams from the Big Onion meant that the trophy was always going to end up there. More importantly Arsenal lost a big final, Spurs lost a big final and even Anthony Joshua managed to lose to an unknown Mexican in New York! (more…)
The only one who’s pretty balloon has been well and truly burst is Ole Gunnar Solskjær. They haven’t yet taken the moon away but don’t hold your breath, this incarnation of a once great club is certainly capable of anything.
Talking of moons, Manchester City seem to be winning trophies more than once in a blue one nowadays so maybe their signature song should relate to the colour of the moon over Manchester at present. (more…)
